Most rifle hunters say that bow hunters should rifle hunt while bow hunters say that rifle hunters should pick a bow. In the end do what makes you most happy and most comfortable.
1. Pros-Bow Hunting: Bow hunters definitely don't have the crowd that rifle hunters have to deal with. Bow hunters rarely see anyone else and being surprised if they do happen upon another bow hunter. Your chances of seeing bigger and more animals increases by 3 times. During the bow season elk and mule deer tend to stay out longer during the morning and come out earlier in the evenings increasing your odds for success. Hunting with a bow requires skill on many levels therefore making it more rewarding in a bow hunters eyes. The weather is better during this season.
2. Cons-Bow Hunting: Bow hunting is difficult. Your percentage for success is much lower than a rifle hunter. Bow equipment is more expensive than a rifle equipment. It can be very frustrating at times, I've talked to bow hunters who have spent all day stalking a trophy buck only to get within 70 yards and have the deer catch wind of the hunter and they vanish like a fart in the wind.
1. Pros-Rifle Hunting: Shooting a rifle through a scope at long range is fun and can be challenging especially if you've got buck fever. Your success for harvesting an animal increases greatly because of the distance the rifle has that the bow doesn't. Rifle hunting doesn't take as much practice as a bow does. It's cheaper and more people can enjoy and go rifle hunting. The leaves have fallen off the trees making it easier to see the game from longer distances.
2. Cons-Rifle Hunting: Lots of people. Last year I counted 50 trucks coming into the mountain where I was hunting mule deer. Luckily I was already sitting in my position when the rest of the hunters started up the hill. The weather can be horrible and nasty. Many hunters love the cold, snowy, freezing weather because it brings out the deer however some people beg to differ.

Duck Hunting Boats and Boat Plans
Duck hunting is a relaxing and gratifying way to enjoy the outdoors. Being successful requires real patience, to be still and quiet waiting for the ducks to touch down, a good eye for that shot and invariably persistence in dismissing the sometimes seeping cold.
Great skill is also needed. Choosing the right size and type of decoy, siting them correctly - which means reading and noting wind conditions. Shotguns need to be carefully cleaned and shot kept in good shape and on hand.
The triumph is to bag trophies. With ducks this will be not too many, to avoid overkill, and not too few. Enough to know that one's time and skill is vindicated.
The hull of duck hunting boats is nearly flat. In fact some argue that the most successful duck hunts undertaken are from layout boats and that the skill involved in this type of water-fowling will soon cease to exist.
The layout boat has a very low profile, lying close to the water. Both boat and hunter being well camouflaged, hunting takes place in the middle of the lake where the decoys have already been carefully laid out. The hunter lies down, almost flat, with room for him to be able to sit up and take a shot at the appropriate moment. Remember that most duck hunts take part in winter so true dedication to this art is required to follow the practice.
Layout boats are around 19" high, 11'-15' in length and 6'-8' wide. The wider they are the more stable they'll be. However this is only a small part of the overall outfit. One also needs a boat to retrieve the birds, transport the hunters and the decoys, and to tow the layout to its place.
These boats are hard to find commercially. People who use them generally build their own.
There are other boats from which one can successfully hunt like the Jon boat or canoe. This is also flat-bottomed with one, two or three bench seats. They are known to be stable, important for the moment when the shot is fired.
The flat bottom also means that the boat can go into marsh and reed where ducks may hide, without running aground.
Purchasing an outfit is one way to go, but there are alternatives. One of these is to build your own boat. In fact if you are an outdoor enthusiast, the choice of boat plans are endless. An advantage of building your own from these well constructed plans is that they are cost effective.

Ground-Bound Bow Hunting
Like most everyone, I started out bow hunting from a tree stand and still do most of my hunting up above the scent and sight line of deer.
But after my first two or three years, someone stole my climbing stand. This was during my "mountain man" period. I was actually living off the land at the time and simply couldn't afford to buy another. So I learned to hunt from the ground.
It can be done. So I thought I would share what I've learned about this most challenging and rewarding way to hunt, just in case some of you would like to get down and walk around once in a while.
Stalking to within bow range of a deer is not as difficult as many may think. If you've learned to be a good squirrel hunter, you can approach deer using the same methods, but you do have to stop more often and stop for longer periods.
In fact, I see more deer when hunting from the ground than I do from a stand, mainly because I am mobile and cross paths with them more often. I sure haven't killed many this way, however, because I do most of my hunting from a tree stand and use a compound bow.
What I've learned is that color-blind deer don't see as well as most people believe. What they are extremely adept at is detecting the slightest movement. Hunting deer from the ground is not much different than hunting turkeys from the ground. They may notice something strange about your shape or form, but if you don't blink for however long it takes, they will go on about their business.
The problem is that to draw and aim a compound bow requires considerable movement and some time. When you are that close, it is rare when they don't see you draw, and they usually bolt before you even get a chance to put the sights on them. A practiced "instinct shooter" with a recurve would have a much better chance.
The most important thing is being aware of the direction of the wind. A deer may see you or hear you, but if you stay still long enough, they won't leave. If, however, they get the slightest hint of your human stink, they're gone in an instant-no questions asked. Just from the feel of it, I am able to determine the direction of the slightest breeze and pay attention to it constantly. If you can't do that, it is a good idea to tie a short piece of very light thread to the end of your bow and pay
attention to it.
Stalking them really isn't the best way to hunt from the ground, however. I will move around quite a bit when I'm ground bound, but I spend most of my time siting or standing in natural blinds. One of the best is a fallen tree. If it still has some leaves on it, all the better.
I climb right into the middle of it and then practice swinging the bow around and drawing to be sure I can shoot through the openings. The irregular cover of the twisted limbs not only breaks my outline and masks small movements, deer don't seem to expect danger from within it.
Fallen trees on an otherwise open area are similar to isolated cover in a lake. Deer usually pass very near to them. They feel secure next to them and they seldom look into them. So, when I'm hunting from the ground, I most often follow visible deer trails and look for trees that have fallen within bow range of the trail. In hilly or mountainous areas, those on saddles or benches are ideal.
Fallen trees are best, but a brushy area, or even the base of a tree broader than your shoulders will do, just as it does for turkey hunting. It is important that wherever you chose to sit is in full shade, and it is very important is that the natural blind be above, not below, the deer's path. As they travel, they often look down a slope, but seldom up it.
The very best place to hunt from the ground, however, is along an open field-not where they come to or enter the field, but where they venture along the edge after coming into the open. Deer usually avoid these open areas, except during the low light of early morning or late evening. Late evening definitely is best.
Open areas make them very nervous, and when in the open they spend a lot of time scanning the open area for approaching danger while they graze, or socialize or whatever. Rarely do they look back into the woods, and, because the contrast between the open field and the darkened woods (especially along pine thickets) is so dramatic, you can get away with drawing and aiming without detection, as long as you are in the darkened area behind the brushy edge of the field.
Hunting from the ground is very challenging and less productive, to be sure, but it's not as boring as sitting in a tree for hours on end.
There is something very real and rewarding about ground-bound bow hunting.

Minnesota Public Hunting Land Maps - 7 Categories Of Hunting Land
The United States has many forests, but all of them cannot be counted as public hunting lands. Compared to many other states, Minnesota can provide a fair number of public hunting lands for the eager hunter. Also, plenty of resources are available to provide information regarding these lands. As a matter of fact, Minnesota public hunting land maps are readily provided by the Minnesota DNR or Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
All the public hunting properties looked after by the state of Minnesota can be pinpointed on the Minnesota public hunting land maps. Hunting regulations and rules slightly vary in each type of land.
According to the Minnesota public hunting land maps, hunting areas in this state have been categorized as follows--
(1) Wildlife Management Areas.
(2) State Forests.
(3) Wildlife Protection Areas.
(4) National Wildlife Refuges.
(5) National Forests.
(6) Industrial Forest Lands.
(7) County-owned Lands.
Each kind of land is described below--
(1) The Department of Natural Resources looks after uplands, woods and wetlands listed as "Wildlife Management Areas". Public hunting is allowed on these locations during the normal hunting season.
(2) There are 56 forests belonging to the state. Covering an area of three million acres, these "state forests" are home to animals like bear, deer, ruffled grouse and moose. The public is given access for hunting in these areas.
(3) Some areas are under federal protection, yet open for limited public hunting. These "Wildlife Protection Areas" consist of a few uplands and wetlands. The Minnesota Public Recreation Information (PRIM) maps will lend Minnesota public hunting land maps to search for these locations.
(4) The US Fish and Wildlife Service gives access to Minnesota public hunting land maps as well as hunting laws related to its 8 "National Wildlife Refuges". Hunting is restricted to certain parts only, and the harvest allowed is limited.
(5) The 2 "National Forests" of the state are Superior and Chippewa. A hunter can get Minnesota public hunting land maps for directions to these northern forests from the US National Forest Service, since hunting is allowed on these properties.
(6) Large companies dealing with forest products also own "Industrial Forest Lands". Hunters are generally allowed access to these properties during the regular hunting season, unless a company wants to use its land for another purpose.
(7) Landowners who have not been able to pay their taxes, lose their properties (generally forested areas) to the government. They are then considered as "County-owned Lands". There are Minnesota public hunting land maps to provide directions as well as the list of hunting regulations to be followed. Each county has its own hunting laws. Also, the acreage varies from place to place.

Night Hunting For Coyotes - Techniques and Gear For Hunting Coyotes at Night
Night hunting laws vary greatly. Please check your state and local hunting laws before hunting at night.
Hunting coyotes at night can be very effective and challenging at the same time.
Some of the advantages for night hunting coyotes include:
Coyotes and other predators are more active at night. They're usually on the move in search of prey for their next meal. This can be an advantage when using a distress call.
Human activity is low and coyotes feel more secure and less cautious and may respond to calling with less apprehension.
Often times, the wind is lower at night making it less likely that a coyote will detect your scent. Although, you still need to be concerned with wind direction.
Now the disadvantages:
You can't see as far at night and target identification can be difficult.
There is always a safety issue at night especially if you're hunting with partners.
Usually you will have to carry more gear such as batteries and lights making your movement a little more difficult.
If your light goes out or your batteries go dead your hunt is over.
You will need to call the coyotes in much closer because safe shot distances are much less compared to daytime hunting.
The gear:
Most hunters will use some type of red light which will reflect off the coyote's retina.
Although some hunters will disagree, white light tends to spook coyotes. Lights can vary from handheld spotlights and flashlights to gun and scope mounted lights or large spotlights mounted on vehicles.
If hunting with a rifle I prefer to use a scope mounted light. A light mounted on a rifle this way will allow you to scan the area with the light and be ready to shoot when the time is right. When using a shotgun I prefer to use a head mounted light positioned so that when sighting down the barrel I can see the coyote and the sight beads at the same time.
The technique:
I prefer to call and shoot from a standing position using an extended monopod. You do not need to be concerned with positioning yourself against a backdrop like daytime hunting. Coyotes cannot see beyond the source of the light.
Remember that your shots will need to be fairly close for target identification and safety so position your stand with that in mind. You will still need to use all your daytime hunting skills when night hunting.
You will want to scan the area quickly and keep the beam moving in an effort to catch the eyes of an approaching coyote as soon as possible. Keep the light on while calling. If glowing eyes are spotted, direct the outer edge of the beam or the halo on the eyes. You want to give just enough light to keep the eyes glowing. Do not focus the main beam on the coyote until it is time to confirm the target and shoot. When the eyes are close enough to identify and shoot drop the main beam on the coyote and shoot. Before you move from your position take some time and really concentrate on the area of the shot and get a good mental picture before you try to retrieve your coyote. Terrain can look a lot different at night. If you have a partner, have them go retrieve the coyote while you aim the light at the point of the shot.
Night hunting for coyotes can be very exciting and productive as long as you don't mind missing a little TV and some sleep.

Is the Exterminator Going to Change Deer Hunting?
As readers of my previous articles know, I am a huge fan of scent control while deer hunting. A new device has come on the market that may change the way deer hunters control scent. The device is called the Exterminator.
The unit is about the size of a six pack and simply plugs into a wall outlet. The idea was brought about through NASA astronauts working in confined areas with one another. To solve the odor issues, researchers developed an electronic organic molecular scrubber that literally kills odors. Space age technology is now available to hunters to decontaminate odors and bacteria on everything they wear and carry into the woods.
The exterminator works very well when hunting clothes are stored in a closet and simply turned on. Works even better if there are doors on the closet or wherever you store your hunting clothes.
The dirty sock test was used to prove that the exterminator does indeed work. One dirty sock was stored in a plastic zip lock bag and the other smelly sock in the closet with the Exterminator. A few hours later, all odors were eliminated from the smelly sock.
The unit itself sounds very complex, but any monkey could use it. Just hang your clothes up and turn the thing on. Odor free clothes every time your ready to hunt.
Two things I want to mention here. The price tag is somewhere around 0. The second thing is, you still must take care of your own body odor. Easy enough right?
As with anything new, I myself will wait and see how the reviews come out. That doesn't mean that you have to or should though.

Hunting By Moon Phase: Your Best Season Ever
Every season, millions of hunters take to the woods with renewed enthusiasm and vigor. Unfortunately, many come away empty handed, returning day after day to face similar results. It's every hunter's biggest dilemma, but some have found the perfect solution, and that is hunting by moon phase.
Fishermen have long been aware of the powerful influence of the moon on the tides and chart the various phases of the moon in order to determine the best time to fish. Similarly, animals are in tune with their surroundings and certain shifts in natural forces trigger corresponding responses in the wild.
For years, researchers have studied the reaction of wildlife to changes in the position of the sun and moon and have come up with some rather interesting observations in relation to hunting by moon phase.
So, how does this work? How can paying attention to the phases of the moon help ensure a hunter's success?
Animals and the Moon
Animals in the wild tend to be less active during daylight hours. Feeling safer under the cover of darkness, many animals will increase their activity as dusk falls.
However, many observers have noted that activity amongst all animals is greater when the moon is full and that this one form of hunting by moon phase -- hunting during periods of full moon -- can yield excellent results.
In other words, if you're aware of the phases of the moon, you're in a better position to anticipate the peak of animal activity. The more active they are, the better your chances will be of finding them.
Moon Phase Deer Hunting
Much of the research that has been done on this subject has involved hunting deer, and many hunters swear that hunting by moon phase is the only way to accurately predict deer activity.
But the moon doesn't only have an impact on deer activity. The various phases of the moon also seem to have a direct effect on deer mating patterns, which in turn make them easier to locate. 1. Pros-Bow Hunting: Bow hunters definitely don't have the crowd that rifle hunters have to deal with. Bow hunters rarely see anyone else and being surprised if they do happen upon another bow hunter. Your chances of seeing bigger and more animals increases by 3 times. During the bow season elk and mule deer tend to stay out longer during the morning and come out earlier in the evenings increasing your odds for success. Hunting with a bow requires skill on many levels therefore making it more rewarding in a bow hunters eyes. The weather is better during this season.
2. Cons-Bow Hunting: Bow hunting is difficult. Your percentage for success is much lower than a rifle hunter. Bow equipment is more expensive than a rifle equipment. It can be very frustrating at times, I've talked to bow hunters who have spent all day stalking a trophy buck only to get within 70 yards and have the deer catch wind of the hunter and they vanish like a fart in the wind.

Your success for harvesting an animal increases greatly because of the distance the rifle has that the bow doesn't. Rifle hunting doesn't take as much practice as a bow does. It's cheaper and more people can enjoy and go rifle hunting. The leaves have fallen off the trees making it easier to see the game from longer distances.
2. Cons-Rifle Hunting: Lots of people. Last year I counted 50 trucks coming into the mountain where I was hunting mule deer. Luckily I was already sitting in my position when the rest of the hunters started up the hill. The weather can be horrible and nasty. Many hunters love the cold, snowy, freezing weather because it brings out the deer however some people beg to differ.

Duck hunting is a relaxing and gratifying way to enjoy the outdoors. Being successful requires real patience, to be still and quiet waiting for the ducks to touch down, a good eye for that shot and invariably persistence in dismissing the sometimes seeping cold.
Great skill is also needed. Choosing the right size and type of decoy, siting them correctly - which means reading and noting wind conditions. Shotguns need to be carefully cleaned and shot kept in good shape and on hand.
The triumph is to bag trophies. With ducks this will be not too many, to avoid overkill, and not too few. Enough to know that one's time and skill is vindicated.
The hull of duck hunting boats is nearly flat. In fact some argue that the most successful duck hunts undertaken are from layout boats and that the skill involved in this type of water-fowling will soon cease to exist.
The layout boat has a very low profile, lying close to the water. Both boat and hunter being well camouflaged, hunting takes place in the middle of the lake where the decoys have already been carefully laid out. The hunter lies down, almost flat, with room for him to be able to sit up and take a shot at the appropriate moment. Remember that most duck hunts take part in winter so true dedication to this art is required to follow the practice.
Layout boats are around 19" high, 11'-15' in length and 6'-8' wide. The wider they are the more stable they'll be. However this is only a small part of the overall outfit. One also needs a boat to retrieve the birds, transport the hunters and the decoys, and to tow the layout to its place.
These boats are hard to find commercially. People who use them generally build their own.
There are other boats from which one can successfully hunt like the Jon boat or canoe. This is also flat-bottomed with one, two or three bench seats. They are known to be stable, important for the moment when the shot is fired.
The flat bottom also means that the boat can go into marsh and reed where ducks may hide, without running aground.
Purchasing an outfit is one way to go, but there are alternatives. One of these is to build your own boat. In fact if you are an outdoor enthusiast, the choice of boat plans are endless. An advantage of building your own from these well constructed plans is that they are cost effective.

Hunting coyotes at night can be very effective and challenging at the same time.
Some of the advantages for night hunting coyotes include:
Coyotes and other predators are more active at night. They're usually on the move in search of prey for their next meal. This can be an advantage when using a distress call.
Human activity is low and coyotes feel more secure and less cautious and may respond to calling with less apprehension.
Often times, the wind is lower at night making it less likely that a coyote will detect your scent. Although, you still need to be concerned with wind direction.
Now the disadvantages:
You can't see as far at night and target identification can be difficult.
There is always a safety issue at night especially if you're hunting with partners.
Usually you will have to carry more gear such as batteries and lights making your movement a little more difficult.
If your light goes out or your batteries go dead your hunt is over.
You will need to call the coyotes in much closer because safe shot distances are much less compared to daytime hunting.
The gear:
Most hunters will use some type of red light which will reflect off the coyote's retina.
Although some hunters will disagree, white light tends to spook coyotes. Lights can vary from handheld spotlights and flashlights to gun and scope mounted lights or large spotlights mounted on vehicles.
If hunting with a rifle I prefer to use a scope mounted light. A light mounted on a rifle this way will allow you to scan the area with the light and be ready to shoot when the time is right. When using a shotgun I prefer to use a head mounted light positioned so that when sighting down the barrel I can see the coyote and the sight beads at the same time.
The technique:
I prefer to call and shoot from a standing position using an extended monopod. You do not need to be concerned with positioning yourself against a backdrop like daytime hunting. Coyotes cannot see beyond the source of the light.
Remember that your shots will need to be fairly close for target identification and safety so position your stand with that in mind. You will still need to use all your daytime hunting skills when night hunting.
You will want to scan the area quickly and keep the beam moving in an effort to catch the eyes of an approaching coyote as soon as possible. Keep the light on while calling. If glowing eyes are spotted, direct the outer edge of the beam or the halo on the eyes. You want to give just enough light to keep the eyes glowing. Do not focus the main beam on the coyote until it is time to confirm the target and shoot. When the eyes are close enough to identify and shoot drop the main beam on the coyote and shoot. Before you move from your position take some time and really concentrate on the area of the shot and get a good mental picture before you try to retrieve your coyote. Terrain can look a lot different at night. If you have a partner, have them go retrieve the coyote while you aim the light at the point of the shot.
Night hunting for coyotes can be very exciting and productive as long as you don't mind missing a little TV and some sleep.

The size of a coyote's home range depends on the food and cover resources available and on the number of other coyotes in an area, but it generally averages between 8 and 12 square miles. Coyote mating season in Michigan takes place from mid-January through February into early March. Mated pairs and 4-7 recently born pups occupy the home range during the spring and summer seasons in Michigan
Mating season is prime time to call and hunt coyotes in Michigan. Like whitetail deer, coyotes become more active and territorial during this time. Younger coyotes are often forced out of areas as mated pairs establish breeding territories. With snow on the ground, this can be also be a difficult time for coyotes to find food and are required to increase movement and hunting activity.
Michigan coyote season runs from July 15th through April 15th. Some areas of Michigan have hunting restrictions during deer season and it is best to check the state hunting laws each season. You can also hunt at night in Michigan from October 15th through March 31st.

Coyote Hunting Tips
You're going to get six of the best coyote hunting tips that I've learned over the past 20 years of coyote hunting. Let me start by telling you that if you are a beginner, coyote hunting is a lot of fun. Every time I go I have a blast and learn something new about the critters.
There are lots of ways to hunt coyotes. I'm going to give you tips on what I believe to be the most fun way to hunt coyotes, calling them to you. The first coyote hunting tip that I'll give you is that you will need to do a little scouting before hand to find some areas were coyotes are actually frequenting. These areas will include timber, ditches, grassy areas, water holes and basically locations where there is a good amount of cover. In these areas you will be looking for "coyote sign". Look for coyote tracks, both old and new, coyote dens, and coyotes scat (droppings).
Here is the second coyote hunting tip I'll give you. Let's say that you have now found an area where there is good coyotes sign and you are ready to go hunting. Always set yourself up to call down wind of where you expect the coyote to come from (timber, ditch, grassy area, etc.). Coyotes have an exceptional sense of smell so you don't want them to get wind of you.
The third coyote hunting tip is you always wear camo clothing that blends in with the season. In other words if it is fall and trees, grass, etc are turning brown, I would recommend brown and green camo. If it is winter and there's snow on the ground I would recommend white camo. Just be sure you blend in as well as possible with your surroundings. Coyotes also have very good eyesight so anything you can do to not be detected it is highly recommended.Coyote hunting tip number four is to hunt with a partner whenever possible. I seldom hunt alone. One reason is safety. The main reason though is being able to see the whole area that you are hunting. It can be very hard for one person to scan the entire area by yourself without a lot of movement. The less you move the better.
Number five and is to choose the right call for your area. I live in Missouri where a large part of the coyotes diet is cottontail rabbit and field mice. So I mainly use a cottontail rabbit distress call and a mouse squeaker. The key for you will be to determine what the coyotes in your area are eating and use the proper call. If you live out west where jack rabbits or more prevalent than cottontails, you would probably want to use a jackrabbit distress call which has a lot raspier tone than a cottontail call.
Coyote hunting tip number six is to start calling very low in volume. The reason for this is that there could be a coyote very close to you. If you were to start calling very loudly it may spook the coyote. After a couple of times of calling very low in volume, you should begin calling louder and louder. If a coyote does not appear in about 20 minutes, I suggest moving on to another area.

You will need to call the coyotes in much closer because safe shot distances are much less compared to daytime hunting.
The gear:
Most hunters will use some type of red light which will reflect off the coyote's retina.
Although some hunters will disagree, white light tends to spook coyotes. Lights can vary from handheld spotlights and flashlights to gun and scope mounted lights or large spotlights mounted on vehicles.
If hunting with a rifle I prefer to use a scope mounted light. A light mounted on a rifle this way will allow you to scan the area with the light and be ready to shoot when the time is right. When using a shotgun I prefer to use a head mounted light positioned so that when sighting down the barrel I can see the coyote and the sight beads at the same time.
The technique:
I prefer to call and shoot from a standing position using an extended monopod. You do not need to be concerned with positioning yourself against a backdrop like daytime hunting. Coyotes cannot see beyond the source of the light.
Remember that your shots will need to be fairly close for target identification and safety so position your stand with that in mind. You will still need to use all your daytime hunting skills when night hunting.
You will want to scan the area quickly and keep the beam moving in an effort to catch the eyes of an approaching coyote as soon as possible. Keep the light on while calling. If glowing eyes are spotted, direct the outer edge of the beam or the halo on the eyes. You want to give just enough light to keep the eyes glowing. Do not focus the main beam on the coyote until it is time to confirm the target and shoot. When the eyes are close enough to identify and shoot drop the main beam on the coyote and shoot. Before you move from your position take some time and really concentrate on the area of the shot and get a good mental picture before you try to retrieve your coyote. Terrain can look a lot different at night. If you have a partner, have them go retrieve the coyote while you aim the light at the point of the shot.
Night hunting for coyotes can be very exciting and productive as long as you don't mind missing a little TV and some sleep.

Ground-Bound Bow Hunting
Like most everyone, I started out bow hunting from a tree stand and still do most of my hunting up above the scent and sight line of deer.
But after my first two or three years, someone stole my climbing stand. This was during my "mountain man" period. I was actually living off the land at the time and simply couldn't afford to buy another. So I learned to hunt from the ground.
It can be done. So I thought I would share what I've learned about this most challenging and rewarding way to hunt, just in case some of you would like to get down and walk around once in a while.
Stalking to within bow range of a deer is not as difficult as many may think. If you've learned to be a good squirrel hunter, you can approach deer using the same methods, but you do have to stop more often and stop for longer periods.
In fact, I see more deer when hunting from the ground than I do from a stand, mainly because I am mobile and cross paths with them more often. I sure haven't killed many this way, however, because I do most of my hunting from a tree stand and use a compound bow.
What I've learned is that color-blind deer don't see as well as most people believe. What they are extremely adept at is detecting the slightest movement. Hunting deer from the ground is not much different than hunting turkeys from the ground. They may notice something strange about your shape or form, but if you don't blink for however long it takes, they will go on about their business.
The problem is that to draw and aim a compound bow requires considerable movement and some time. When you are that close, it is rare when they don't see you draw, and they usually bolt before you even get a chance to put the sights on them. A practiced "instinct shooter" with a recurve would have a much better chance.
The most important thing is being aware of the direction of the wind. A deer may see you or hear you, but if you stay still long enough, they won't leave. If, however, they get the slightest hint of your human stink, they're gone in an instant-no questions asked. Just from the feel of it, I am able to determine the direction of the slightest breeze and pay attention to it constantly. If you can't do that, it is a good idea to tie a short piece of very light thread to the end of your bow and pay
attention to it.
Stalking them really isn't the best way to hunt from the ground, however. I will move around quite a bit when I'm ground bound, but I spend most of my time siting or standing in natural blinds. One of the best is a fallen tree. If it still has some leaves on it, all the better.
I climb right into the middle of it and then practice swinging the bow around and drawing to be sure I can shoot through the openings. The irregular cover of the twisted limbs not only breaks my outline and masks small movements, deer don't seem to expect danger from within it.
Fallen trees on an otherwise open area are similar to isolated cover in a lake. Deer usually pass very near to them. They feel secure next to them and they seldom look into them. So, when I'm hunting from the ground, I most often follow visible deer trails and look for trees that have fallen within bow range of the trail. In hilly or mountainous areas, those on saddles or benches are ideal.
Fallen trees are best, but a brushy area, or even the base of a tree broader than your shoulders will do, just as it does for turkey hunting. It is important that wherever you chose to sit is in full shade, and it is very important is that the natural blind be above, not below, the deer's path. As they travel, they often look down a slope, but seldom up it.
The very best place to hunt from the ground, however, is along an open field-not where they come to or enter the field, but where they venture along the edge after coming into the open. Deer usually avoid these open areas, except during the low light of early morning or late evening. Late evening definitely is best.
Open areas make them very nervous, and when in the open they spend a lot of time scanning the open area for approaching danger while they graze, or socialize or whatever. Rarely do they look back into the woods, and, because the contrast between the open field and the darkened woods (especially along pine thickets) is so dramatic, you can get away with drawing and aiming without detection, as long as you are in the darkened area behind the brushy edge of the field.
Hunting from the ground is very challenging and less productive, to be sure, but it's not as boring as sitting in a tree for hours on end.
There is something very real and rewarding about ground-bound bow hunting.

Is the Exterminator Going to Change Deer Hunting?
As readers of my previous articles know, I am a huge fan of scent control while deer hunting. A new device has come on the market that may change the way deer hunters control scent. The device is called the Exterminator.
The unit is about the size of a six pack and simply plugs into a wall outlet. The idea was brought about through NASA astronauts working in confined areas with one another. To solve the odor issues, researchers developed an electronic organic molecular scrubber that literally kills odors. Space age technology is now available to hunters to decontaminate odors and bacteria on everything they wear and carry into the woods.
The exterminator works very well when hunting clothes are stored in a closet and simply turned on. Works even better if there are doors on the closet or wherever you store your hunting clothes.
The dirty sock test was used to prove that the exterminator does indeed work. One dirty sock was stored in a plastic zip lock bag and the other smelly sock in the closet with the Exterminator. A few hours later, all odors were eliminated from the smelly sock.
The unit itself sounds very complex, but any monkey could use it. Just hang your clothes up and turn the thing on. Odor free clothes every time your ready to hunt.
Two things I want to mention here. The price tag is somewhere around 0. The second thing is, you still must take care of your own body odor. Easy enough right?
As with anything new, I myself will wait and see how the reviews come out. That doesn't mean that you have to or should though.

Pros and Cons of Bow Hunting vs Rifle Hunting
Most rifle hunters say that bow hunters should rifle hunt while bow hunters say that rifle hunters should pick a bow. In the end do what makes you most happy and most comfortable.
1. Pros-Bow Hunting: Bow hunters definitely don't have the crowd that rifle hunters have to deal with. Bow hunters rarely see anyone else and being surprised if they do happen upon another bow hunter. Your chances of seeing bigger and more animals increases by 3 times. During the bow season elk and mule deer tend to stay out longer during the morning and come out earlier in the evenings increasing your odds for success. Hunting with a bow requires skill on many levels therefore making it more rewarding in a bow hunters eyes. The weather is better during this season.
2. Cons-Bow Hunting: Bow hunting is difficult. Your percentage for success is much lower than a rifle hunter. Bow equipment is more expensive than a rifle equipment. It can be very frustrating at times, I've talked to bow hunters who have spent all day stalking a trophy buck only to get within 70 yards and have the deer catch wind of the hunter and they vanish like a fart in the wind.
1. Pros-Rifle Hunting: Shooting a rifle through a scope at long range is fun and can be challenging especially if you've got buck fever. Your success for harvesting an animal increases greatly because of the distance the rifle has that the bow doesn't. Rifle hunting doesn't take as much practice as a bow does. It's cheaper and more people can enjoy and go rifle hunting. The leaves have fallen off the trees making it easier to see the game from longer distances.
2. Cons-Rifle Hunting: Lots of people. Last year I counted 50 trucks coming into the mountain where I was hunting mule deer. Luckily I was already sitting in my position when the rest of the hunters started up the hill. The weather can be horrible and nasty. Many hunters love the cold, snowy, freezing weather because it brings out the deer however some people beg to differ.

Michigan Coyote Hunting
Coyotes are found throughout the state of Michigan from big woods and cedar swamps of the Upper Peninsula to the suburban neighborhoods and farmlands of southern Michigan. They are most abundant in the Upper and northern Lower Peninsulas. Every area of the Michigan is experiencing a growing coyote population along with a growing population of coyote hunters.
Coyotes are extremely adaptable and survive in virtually all habitat types common in Michigan. They thrive in areas where adequate food, cover, water and safety are available. Urban areas can also support coyotes that are happy to obtain their food supply from domestic dogs and cats
The size of a coyote's home range depends on the food and cover resources available and on the number of other coyotes in an area, but it generally averages between 8 and 12 square miles. Coyote mating season in Michigan takes place from mid-January through February into early March. Mated pairs and 4-7 recently born pups occupy the home range during the spring and summer seasons in Michigan
Mating season is prime time to call and hunt coyotes in Michigan. Like whitetail deer, coyotes become more active and territorial during this time. Younger coyotes are often forced out of areas as mated pairs establish breeding territories. With snow on the ground, this can be also be a difficult time for coyotes to find food and are required to increase movement and hunting activity.
Michigan coyote season runs from July 15th through April 15th. Some areas of Michigan have hunting restrictions during deer season and it is best to check the state hunting laws each season. You can also hunt at night in Michigan from October 15th through March 31st.
Calling coyotes with hand held calls or using an electronic game call is the fastest growing hunting sport in Michigan. Coyotes respond to your call out of hunger, territorial issues, social issues or curiosity. Most of your responses will be from hunger and territorial issues.
The majority of all coyotes are called in using prey distress sounds. The good old fashioned rabbit-in-distress sound has probably been used to call in more Michigan coyotes than all the others combined. This proven calling technique will be replaced any time soon.
Using coyote sounds like howling have become more popular for Michigan coyote hunters.
Using coyote sounds for calling can be very effective. Beginners may want to start out with some simple distress calling and learn the basics. It can get a little tricky when you're trying to talk to the coyote in its own language.
Although you can call in coyotes at anytime, the best time to hunt is usually early morning and late evening. Night hunting offers its own set of challenges.
Hunting coyotes in Michigan can be very exciting and challenging. As the population increases so does the opportunity for you to add coyote hunting to your list of hunting activities.

Duck Hunting Boats and Boat Plans
Duck hunting is a relaxing and gratifying way to enjoy the outdoors. Being successful requires real patience, to be still and quiet waiting for the ducks to touch down, a good eye for that shot and invariably persistence in dismissing the sometimes seeping cold.
Great skill is also needed. Choosing the right size and type of decoy, siting them correctly - which means reading and noting wind conditions. Shotguns need to be carefully cleaned and shot kept in good shape and on hand.
The triumph is to bag trophies. With ducks this will be not too many, to avoid overkill, and not too few. Enough to know that one's time and skill is vindicated.
The hull of duck hunting boats is nearly flat. In fact some argue that the most successful duck hunts undertaken are from layout boats and that the skill involved in this type of water-fowling will soon cease to exist.
The layout boat has a very low profile, lying close to the water. Both boat and hunter being well camouflaged, hunting takes place in the middle of the lake where the decoys have already been carefully laid out. The hunter lies down, almost flat, with room for him to be able to sit up and take a shot at the appropriate moment. Remember that most duck hunts take part in winter so true dedication to this art is required to follow the practice.
Layout boats are around 19" high, 11'-15' in length and 6'-8' wide. The wider they are the more stable they'll be. However this is only a small part of the overall outfit. One also needs a boat to retrieve the birds, transport the hunters and the decoys, and to tow the layout to its place.
These boats are hard to find commercially. People who use them generally build their own.
There are other boats from which one can successfully hunt like the Jon boat or canoe. This is also flat-bottomed with one, two or three bench seats. They are known to be stable, important for the moment when the shot is fired.
The flat bottom also means that the boat can go into marsh and reed where ducks may hide, without running aground.
Purchasing an outfit is one way to go, but there are alternatives. One of these is to build your own boat. In fact if you are an outdoor enthusiast, the choice of boat plans are endless. An advantage of building your own from these well constructed plans is that they are cost effective.

Is the Exterminator Going to Change Deer Hunting?
As readers of my previous articles know, I am a huge fan of scent control while deer hunting. A new device has come on the market that may change the way deer hunters control scent. The device is called the Exterminator.
The unit is about the size of a six pack and simply plugs into a wall outlet. The idea was brought about through NASA astronauts working in confined areas with one another. To solve the odor issues, researchers developed an electronic organic molecular scrubber that literally kills odors. Space age technology is now available to hunters to decontaminate odors and bacteria on everything they wear and carry into the woods.
The exterminator works very well when hunting clothes are stored in a closet and simply turned on. Works even better if there are doors on the closet or wherever you store your hunting clothes.
The dirty sock test was used to prove that the exterminator does indeed work. One dirty sock was stored in a plastic zip lock bag and the other smelly sock in the closet with the Exterminator. A few hours later, all odors were eliminated from the smelly sock.
The unit itself sounds very complex, but any monkey could use it. Just hang your clothes up and turn the thing on. Odor free clothes every time your ready to hunt.
Two things I want to mention here. The price tag is somewhere around 0. The second thing is, you still must take care of your own body odor. Easy enough right?
As with anything new, I myself will wait and see how the reviews come out. That doesn't mean that you have to or should though.

Hunting By Moon Phase: Your Best Season Ever
Every season, millions of hunters take to the woods with renewed enthusiasm and vigor. Unfortunately, many come away empty handed, returning day after day to face similar results. It's every hunter's biggest dilemma, but some have found the perfect solution, and that is hunting by moon phase.
Fishermen have long been aware of the powerful influence of the moon on the tides and chart the various phases of the moon in order to determine the best time to fish. Similarly, animals are in tune with their surroundings and certain shifts in natural forces trigger corresponding responses in the wild.
For years, researchers have studied the reaction of wildlife to changes in the position of the sun and moon and have come up with some rather interesting observations in relation to hunting by moon phase.
So, how does this work? How can paying attention to the phases of the moon help ensure a hunter's success?
Animals and the Moon
Animals in the wild tend to be less active during daylight hours. Feeling safer under the cover of darkness, many animals will increase their activity as dusk falls.
However, many observers have noted that activity amongst all animals is greater when the moon is full and that this one form of hunting by moon phase -- hunting during periods of full moon -- can yield excellent results.
In other words, if you're aware of the phases of the moon, you're in a better position to anticipate the peak of animal activity. The more active they are, the better your chances will be of finding them.
Moon Phase Deer Hunting
Much of the research that has been done on this subject has involved hunting deer, and many hunters swear that hunting by moon phase is the only way to accurately predict deer activity.
But the moon doesn't only have an impact on deer activity. The various phases of the moon also seem to have a direct effect on deer mating patterns, which in turn make them easier to locate. It's because of this that moon phase deer hunting -- as it's becoming commonly known -- is quickly gaining acceptance.
Being aware of when the breeding season begins helps to determine travel patterns and areas of increased deer activity. When the breeding season is at its peak, finding deer is easier and finding more than one in a particular area more likely.
So what does this have to do with the moon? A female deer's reproductive cycle is influenced by the different phases of the moon, and peaks in the three or four days surrounding the second full moon after the autumnal equinox. When the does are in heat, the bucks begin rubbing and scraping in an attempt to attract them. If you know when the full moon occurs, you can be at the right spot, at the right time, and have the best chance for success, luring the bucks into your site.
By being aware of the different moon phases, deer hunting can be far more successful. But not only that, it can also help you figure out when not to hunt. You aren't going to be successful after the deer have mated and even the phase when the bucks are chasing the does can be pretty fruitless.
By becoming familiar with these patterns and planning ahead, hunting by moon phase will almost certainly lead to your best hunting season ever.

Compared to many other states, Minnesota can provide a fair number of public hunting lands for the eager hunter. Also, plenty of resources are available to provide information regarding these lands. As a matter of fact, Minnesota public hunting land maps are readily provided by the Minnesota DNR or Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
All the public hunting properties looked after by the state of Minnesota can be pinpointed on the Minnesota public hunting land maps. Hunting regulations and rules slightly vary in each type of land.
According to the Minnesota public hunting land maps, hunting areas in this state have been categorized as follows--
(1) Wildlife Management Areas.
(2) State Forests.
(3) Wildlife Protection Areas.
(4) National Wildlife Refuges.
(5) National Forests.
(6) Industrial Forest Lands.

Coyote Hunting Tips
You're going to get six of the best coyote hunting tips that I've learned over the past 20 years of coyote hunting. Let me start by telling you that if you are a beginner, coyote hunting is a lot of fun. Every time I go I have a blast and learn something new about the critters.
There are lots of ways to hunt coyotes. I'm going to give you tips on what I believe to be the most fun way to hunt coyotes, calling them to you. The first coyote hunting tip that I'll give you is that you will need to do a little scouting before hand to find some areas were coyotes are actually frequenting. These areas will include timber, ditches, grassy areas, water holes and basically locations where there is a good amount of cover. In these areas you will be looking for "coyote sign". Look for coyote tracks, both old and new, coyote dens, and coyotes scat (droppings).
Here is the second coyote hunting tip I'll give you. Let's say that you have now found an area where there is good coyotes sign and you are ready to go hunting. Always set yourself up to call down wind of where you expect the coyote to come from (timber, ditch, grassy area, etc.). Coyotes have an exceptional sense of smell so you don't want them to get wind of you.
The third coyote hunting tip is you always wear camo clothing that blends in with the season. In other words if it is fall and trees, grass, etc are turning brown, I would recommend brown and green camo. If it is winter and there's snow on the ground I would recommend white camo. Just be sure you blend in as well as possible with your surroundings. Coyotes also have very good eyesight so anything you can do to not be detected it is highly recommended.Coyote hunting tip number four is to hunt with a partner whenever possible. I seldom hunt alone. One reason is safety. The main reason though is being able to see the whole area that you are hunting. It can be very hard for one person to scan the entire area by yourself without a lot of movement. The less you move the better.
Number five and is to choose the right call for your area. I live in Missouri where a large part of the coyotes diet is cottontail rabbit and field mice. So I mainly use a cottontail rabbit distress call and a mouse squeaker. The key for you will be to determine what the coyotes in your area are eating and use the proper call. If you live out west where jack rabbits or more prevalent than cottontails, you would probably want to use a jackrabbit distress call which has a lot raspier tone than a cottontail call.
Coyote hunting tip number six is to start calling very low in volume. The reason for this is that there could be a coyote very close to you. If you were to start calling very loudly it may spook the coyote. After a couple of times of calling very low in volume, you should begin calling louder and louder. If a coyote does not appear in about 20 minutes, I suggest moving on to another area.

Ground-Bound Bow Hunting
Like most everyone, I started out bow hunting from a tree stand and still do most of my hunting up above the scent and sight line of deer.
But after my first two or three years, someone stole my climbing stand. This was during my "mountain man" period. I was actually living off the land at the time and simply couldn't afford to buy another. So I learned to hunt from the ground.
It can be done. So I thought I would share what I've learned about this most challenging and rewarding way to hunt, just in case some of you would like to get down and walk around once in a while.
Stalking to within bow range of a deer is not as difficult as many may think. If you've learned to be a good squirrel hunter, you can approach deer using the same methods, but you do have to stop more often and stop for longer periods.
In fact, I see more deer when hunting from the ground than I do from a stand, mainly because I am mobile and cross paths with them more often. I sure haven't killed many this way, however, because I do most of my hunting from a tree stand and use a compound bow.
What I've learned is that color-blind deer don't see as well as most people believe. What they are extremely adept at is detecting the slightest movement. Hunting deer from the ground is not much different than hunting turkeys from the ground. They may notice something strange about your shape or form, but if you don't blink for however long it takes, they will go on about their business.
The problem is that to draw and aim a compound bow requires considerable movement and some time. When you are that close, it is rare when they don't see you draw, and they usually bolt before you even get a chance to put the sights on them. A practiced "instinct shooter" with a recurve would have a much better chance.
The most important thing is being aware of the direction of the wind. A deer may see you or hear you, but if you stay still long enough, they won't leave. If, however, they get the slightest hint of your human stink, they're gone in an instant-no questions asked. Just from the feel of it, I am able to determine the direction of the slightest breeze and pay attention to it constantly. If you can't do that, it is a good idea to tie a short piece of very light thread to the end of your bow and pay
attention to it.
Stalking them really isn't the best way to hunt from the ground, however. I will move around quite a bit when I'm ground bound, but I spend most of my time siting or standing in natural blinds. One of the best is a fallen tree. If it still has some leaves on it, all the better.
I climb right into the middle of it and then practice swinging the bow around and drawing to be sure I can shoot through the openings. The irregular cover of the twisted limbs not only breaks my outline and masks small movements, deer don't seem to expect danger from within it.
Fallen trees on an otherwise open area are similar to isolated cover in a lake. Deer usually pass very near to them. They feel secure next to them and they seldom look into them. So, when I'm hunting from the ground, I most often follow visible deer trails and look for trees that have fallen within bow range of the trail. In hilly or mountainous areas, those on saddles or benches are ideal.
Fallen trees are best, but a brushy area, or even the base of a tree broader than your shoulders will do, just as it does for turkey hunting. It is important that wherever you chose to sit is in full shade, and it is very important is that the natural blind be above, not below, the deer's path. As they travel, they often look down a slope, but seldom up it.
The very best place to hunt from the ground, however, is along an open field-not where they come to or enter the field, but where they venture along the edge after coming into the open. Deer usually avoid these open areas, except during the low light of early morning or late evening. Late evening definitely is best.
Open areas make them very nervous, and when in the open they spend a lot of time scanning the open area for approaching danger while they graze, or socialize or whatever. Rarely do they look back into the woods, and, because the contrast between the open field and the darkened woods (especially along pine thickets) is so dramatic, you can get away with drawing and aiming without detection, as long as you are in the darkened area behind the brushy edge of the field.
Hunting from the ground is very challenging and less productive, to be sure, but it's not as boring as sitting in a tree for hours on end.
There is something very real and rewarding about ground-bound bow hunting.

Good locations for finding pheasants is a dry lake bottom with a significant amount of dead brush and weeds which are about knee to waist high or in the edges of grain or corn fields.
The rooster (male) pheasant is the one that you want to be hunting. It is colorfully marked with long reddish-brown tail feathers and a red and green head. It has a white ring around its neck and has red-orange and black body. The hen (female) pheasant is smaller than the rooster. She is mostly light brown throughout the whole body and has short light brown tail feathers.
Pheasants follow a schedule as routine as your morning coffee. Understanding their routine can increaseyou likely hood of flushing out a rooster.
Before sunrise pheasants start their day at roost sites. This is usually the area of knee to waist high grass or weeds, where they have spent the night. At first light they head for some place to find gravel or grit, such as roadsides, grain fields or similar areas.
They usually begin feeding around 8:0 am. In some places shooting hours begin at 9:0 am and the birds are still feeding.
By mid-morning, pheasants have left the fields for dense, thick cover such as standing corn fields, brush patches or native grasses ". Here they will hunker down until late afternoon. The nastier the weather, the deeper into cover the pheasant will go.
It is hard to work large fields of standing corn, because pheasants will run to avoidpredators. If you are hunting during mid day, then pick ditch banks, field edges, grass field and deep into marshes.
When you do have a successful shot, make sure and mark where the bird fell so it will not be lost on your way to pick it up because the brush and weeds make it difficult to find anything.
Eventually the pheasant has to eat again. So, during the late afternoon, the pheasants move from their loafing spots back to the feeding areas and are easier to spot.
In summary, the best time to hunt pheasants is the first and the last shooting hours of the day.

A friend of mine recently told me about a hunting trip he took to South Africa. The unique aspect of this trip was that it was an airgun hunting trip only. They were going to South Africa to hunt big game with air rifles. The modern airgun is capable of much more than was once possible. On this hunting trip to Africa, the group had several different types of air rifles and calibers ranging from the awesome. 50 caliber Dragon slayer to9 mm 45 caliber and air rifles.
When I first heard that there was a 50 caliber air rifle ... on the market I didn't really believe it until I saw it. The bullet is massive and can easily take down big game in the right situation. Air rifle hunting with big bore airguns poses some unique challenges over regular hunting. The first being distance. A. 300 win mag (standard cartridge used in deer hunting) has an effective range of around 1200 yards. That means you can get off a kill shot the animal without even knowing you are there. With a big bore you are limited to around 100 yards and 100 yards can be even pushing it.
Hunting big game at these distances requires a lot of stealth. Some hunters find the thrill of> hunting with an airgun more appealing than that of a regular firearm because of the considerable skill it takes to track and stalk an animal to get into range.
You can also hunt smaller game and pests such as rabbits, squirrels, raccoons and birds with the smaller caliber air rifle 22.. There are many affordable options in this caliber and recently Crossman has introduced the new Benjamin Discovery and Marauder pcp air series of rifles. The Marauder and Discovery have a compressed air tank built in and can propel a. 22 cal pellets up to 1000 FPS. The nice thing about these hunting rifles is that you can shoot up to 40 full power shots before having to refill the compressed air chamber with a hand pump or scuba tank.

The unit is about the size of a six pack and simply Plugs into a wall outlet. The idea was brought about through NASA astronauts working in confined areas with one another. To solve the odor issues, researchers developed an electronic organic molecular scrubber that literally kills odors. Space age technology is now available to hunters to decontaminated odors and bacteria on everything they wear and carry into the woods.
The exterminator works very well when hunting Clothes are stored in a closet and simply turned on.Works even better if there are doors on the closet or wherever you store your hunting Clothes.
The dirty sock test was used to prove that the exterminator does indeed work. One dirty sock was stored in a plastic zip lock bag and the other smelly sock in the closet with the Exterminator. A few hours later, all odors were eliminated from the smelly sock.
The unit itself sounds very complex, but any monkey could use it. Just hang your Clothes up and turn the thing on. Odor-free clothes every time your ready to hunt.
Two things I want to Mention here. The price TAG is somewhere around $ 500. The second thing is, you still must take care of your own body odor. Easy enough right?
As with anything new, I myself will wait and see how the reviews come out.That doesn't mean that you have to or should though.

Children tend to get bored easily so clues and riddles for your Party need to be easy. Look around your house and examine your most common possessions or household items. Think how you can make funny quips or jokes about these ordinary stuff that are in your home. Here's an example of a one liner: "What did one potato chip say to another potato chip? Answer: Let's go for a dip. Or, can giraffes have babies? Answer: no, they only have giraffes. " These funny witticisms may seem corny to older kids but for young children this will certainly send laughs all around. A question and answer clue is also easier to make than the usual riddle. This style is also easy for slurps clue makers or for novices who are about to host their first ever scavenger hunt. If you arestill having a hard time making a question and answer type of riddle, try doing it backward. Think of an item and make a funny joke about it or just say something about it. Example: "I am smooth and sweet and fun to put in your cocoa drink" Answer: Marshmallows. It is important to note that your clues and riddles need to be appropriate for your kid's age group. As kids get older more difficult and crafty clues might be needed to stimulate the players and make the game more exciting.
Another good idea might be to host a photo scavenger hunt for kids. But unlike most photo scavenger hunt, make the game more challenging by taking a close-up photo of the items to make the hunt more tricky and entertaining. You can add clues or a general location of thecertain thing in the photo and Watch them hunt around matching the pattern of your photos. For pre school children who can't read yet, drawings or photos of toys and other knickknacks would be suitable for them
Most scavenger hunts end with having to award a prize to the winner who found the most items. So it might also be a good idea to make some of the harder to solve clues to make sure that the kids won't end up with the same number of items.
